CONVOCATORIA
¡Teatro de las Américas te invita a participar en un
proyecto teatral sensacional! Por primera vez en su historia TDLA estará
ofreciendo "Teatro en el Parque". Sobre los 19 años de su existencia, este grupo
teatral ha hecho presentaciones en escenarios grandes y pequeños, cancha de
futbol, iglesias, bibliotecas, salones escolares y otros locales.
Bajo la dirección de Christina Aerenlund, los
participantes en esta producción de la comedia "Lisístrata" del dramaturgo
griego Aristófanes, harán que esta obra cobre vida y genere entretenimiento,
consideración y mucha, mucha diversión.
Lisístrata, cansada de las continuas guerras entre
Atenas, Esparta y otras ciudades griegas, reúne a las mujeres de ambos bandos y
les propone iniciar una huelga para forzar a sus hombres a dejar de hacer la
guerra… Lisístrata, escrita hace más de 2400 años se ha convertido en un símbolo
del esfuerzo organizado y pacífico en favor de la paz.
Además del coro de hombres y el coro de mujeres,
existen papeles para actuaciones especiales, entre ellos:

Necesitamos un enorme elenco… 30 a más actores (con
o sin experiencia previa) para hacer de esta obra un evento transcendente en
Oxnard, Ventura, Thousand Oaks y posiblemente en Ojai, Santa Paula y Camarillo.

ancient Greek comedy, Lysistrata, in various parks in Ventura County in
September, 2009. Auditions will be ongoing until the cast of 30 persons is

Américas announces its 2009 season:

El pasatiempo nacional / The National Pastime
by Cuban-in-exile, Raúl De Cardenas in March and
April, directed by Roberto Sánchez;
ü
Plays by and for Young People in May and June;*Sponsored
by Target Foundation. One of these plays will also be presented at the Cinco
de Mayo festivities. We are preparing these plays with a weekly workshop
with children. The workshop participants have already chosen the first play
– Los dos
cochinitos / The Two Little Pigs, directed by Pat Casiano;

Lysistrata by
Aristophanes in August. The plan is to present in outdoor settings,
directed by Christina Ærenlund; and,
ü
La patas
de hilo / Lady Death by Román Calvo in
October and November. This play does two things, it "observes el día de los
muertos (Day of the Dead)" and will be an early start of the observation of
the Mexican independence and liberation anniversaries in 2010, directed by
Pantelis Palamidis.

Teatro de las Américas is seeking
directors, who will have artistic responsibility for all
elements of each play, including set, sound and lighting
design. The plays are in Spanish. Produder is

Our Mission and History
Teatro de
las Américas contributes to cross cultural awareness and
dialogue by sharing the rich traditions of Spanish
speaking cultures as well as other cultures of the world
through the presentation of plays written in or
translated into Spanish.
Since 1992 Teatro de las Américas has presented plays in
Spanish with projection of English super-titles. Our
productions have attracted new and veteran volunteer
performers, stagehands, builders and technicians,
underpaid directors. Our audiences are comprised of
Spanish speakers newly arrived, born in the US to
Spanish speaking parents and English speakers who wish
to learn or hone their skills in Spanish. From 1992 to
2007, Teatro presented plays twice a year. Teatro is now
growing to six productions a year and is taking them to
communities throughout Ventura County, California.
Nuestra
misión e historia
El Teatro de las
Américas contribuye al conocimiento y diálogo de
intercambio cultural, compartiendo las ricas tradiciones
de las culturas hispano-parlantes así como de otras
culturas del mundo por medio de presentaciones de teatro
escrito o traducido al español.
Desde el 1992, el Teatro de las Américas ha presentado
obras de teatro escritas o traducidas al español, con la
proyección de super-títulos en inglés. Nuestras obras
han atraído voluntarios, novatos y veteranos talentosos,
que trabajan como actores, tramoyistas, carpinteros, y
técnicos bajo la dirección de directores remunerados.
Nuestro público incluye a hispano-parlantes recién
llegados o nacidos en los EEUU de padres latinos, así
como monolingües en inglés que desean aprender o mejorar
el español. Del 1992 hasta el 2007, se presentaban dos
obras al año. Actualmente el Teatro presentará seis
obras por año, llevándolas a las varias comunidades del
Condado de Ventura, California.
