Después de la exitosa temporada navideña del año pasado, El Teatro de las
Américas y MusicaLatitudes presentan “Cuentos y Cantos de Navidad 2” una
Fiesta Musical Navideña Latinoamericana para toda la Familia. Actores del
Teatro de las Américas y músicos y cantantes de MusicaLatitudes se reúnen en un
colorido coro de voces para interpretar villancicos, aguinaldos y parrandas
navideñas, y leer cuentos navideños cálidos y alegres de varios países de habla
hispana. La música y la palabra escrita de compositores y cuentistas de México,
Venezuela, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Chile y otros países latinoamericanos se unen
en un espectáculo presentado en español, con supertítulos en inglés.

Américas presents the play Adán, Eva, y la otra / Adam Eve and the Other Woman,
by Mexican playwright Dante de Castillo, directed by Ángela Cruz. The play is in
Spanish with English super-titles. And just who is the Other Woman? Come check

Teatro de las Américas
concludes its series of Readers’ Theater in June 2011. The
third production of the series is The Immigrant
Experience written and produced by Ángela Cruz and the
Actors’ Workshop. The workshop has been collecting stories
about the experience of immigrants and children of
immigrants and is creating a one act play built around
these stories.
Tickets: $10.00 general
admission, $7.00 seniors and students.

Teatro de las Américas concluye la serie de
Teatro en Atril (Teatro Leído en
junio, 2011. La tercera producción es La experiencia del
inmigrante escrita y producida por Ángela Cruz y los
participantes del Taller de Actuación. El taller ha estado
recopilando historias sobre las experiencias de los
inmigrantes y sus hijos y está creando un Acto basado en
esta recopilación.

CONTINUES READERS’ THEATER SERIES!
Teatro de las Américas continues its
series of Readers’ Theater in May and June 2011. The second
production of the series is Yerma by Fedecrico García
Lorca, the eminent Spanish poet and playwright. Yerma is a
tragedy with a single theme (the sterile woman). The
protagonist, Yerma, struggles desperately with her
truth,which is progressively more conflicted and does not
cease until it consumes her. The final resolution –the
death of her husband- is the final defense of her impossible
dream and the resounding affirmation of her tragic destiny,
blind fatalism.
Plot
The play
tells the story of a childless woman living in rural
Spain.
Her desperate desire for motherhood becomes an obsession that eventually drives
her to commit a horrific crime. Her desperation is driven by the social norms of
her culture, and the work functions as a critique of those norms. Living in a
society of women who have children with their husbands as part of a ritual,
hurts Yerma even more.
Although
critics speculate that Yerma kills her husband in the end because he is a
frugal, economically driven man who has no desire to have children, the play is
indeterminate on this issue. She kills him at Ermita, a religious place
with the possibility of fertility. However he has already shown no desire to
have children, so there is no evidence that he would have changed his mind at
the festival.
Themes
Yerma
deals with the themes of isolation, passion and frustration, but also the
underlying theme of nature, marriage, jealousy and friendship. Social
conventions of the period also play a large part in the play's plot.

Teatro de las Américas Sigue la serie
de Teatro en Atril (Teatro Leído) in mayo y
junio, 2011. La
segunda producción es Yerma de la eminente poeta y
dramaturgo español, Federico García Lorca.
Yerma
es una tragedia con un solo tema (la mujer estéril). La
protagonista, Yerma, lucha desesperadamente con su verdad,
que cada vez se vuelve más conflictiva y no ceja en ello
hasta consumarla. La resolución final -la muerte del marido-
es la última defensa de su sueño imposible y una afirmación
rotunda de su destino trágico ante la ciega fatalidad.
